TAKE CHARGE®

This TAKE CHARGE Program is designed to uplift, foster connection, and help with the unique challenges of the Black community.

Up until recently, MS was treated like a "white woman's disease" - often making African American people feel isolated, or worse, undiagnosed and unheard.

That's why Can Do MS invites Black people living with MS and your loved ones to TAKE CHARGE. Join this one-of-a-kind program to learn how you can take charge of your MS, your healthcare, and your life to overcome this illness and begin to thrive!

Why Attend

Now is the time to invest in yourself and your life! At TAKE CHARGE, you'll be empowered to make real changes that have a real impact on your wellbeing. Topics covered will include:

  • Relationships & communication: From dating and intimacy to communicating with family
  • Cognition & mood: Get to know what's going on with your mind
  • Movement & daily activity: Getting active, staying mobile, and having fun
  • Advocating for yourself in the healthcare system: Gain the power and knowledge to be an active decision-maker in your healthcare

We encourage your support partner (spouse, significant other, family member, friend) to attend with you. Often support partners discover a new sense of understanding and connection that they can't find anywhere else.

What to Expect

The TAKE CHARGE program includes pre-program learning courses and a live, virtual program that takes place over the course of one evening and one day.

  • Join us on Friday, July 22 from 6:00 - 8:15 pm ET for trivia night!
  • Return on Saturday, July 23 from 10:30 am - 5:00 pm ET for workshops and more.

During the program, you and your support partner will:

  • Get your questions answered by an integrated team of MS specialists and doctors
  • Develop personal goals for you to manage your symptoms and find your own way to thrive
  • Get the support you need through workshops specific to people with MS and support partners
  • Have fun with other participants from across the country

Pre-program materials will be available about two weeks before the live program and will provide resources related to:

  • Mood and cognition
  • Diet, exercise, and fatigue
  • Employment and financial planning
  • What does it mean to be a support partner

To provide the best experience for participants, space is limited for this program. Unfortunately, not everyone who applies will be selected. We encourage you to fill out your application as thoroughly as possible.
