Avon, Colo. (September 23, 2019) - Eleven years ago, Amanda and Adam Williams organized some lumberjack games in the small town of Red Cliff, Colorado with the idea of raising money for a nonprofit organization, while testing who had the best axe throwing, keg tossing and archery skills. Having outgrown its footprint in this small mountain town, the event was moved to Avon's Nottingham Park in 2014 and has grown to become one of the Vail Valley's favorite annual festivals. Held on Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13, 2019's event will be no exception with competitions like the keg and caber toss, spear and axe throwing, speed wood chopping, tug-of-war and, new this year, beer stein lifting featuring Bonfire Brewing craft beer. 2019's nonprofit partner and beneficiary of Man of the Cliff is the Vail Valley-based Can Do Multiple Sclerosis.

"We're looking forward to working with Can Do MS this year," says co-founder Amanda Williams. "We believe strongly in their mission to help individuals and families affected by MS, and an event like ours fits perfectly with the outdoor lifestyle and never give up attitude they promote. This event is a great way for lumberjacks and lumberjanes to come out and prove they're worthy of the title, Man or Woman of the Cliff."

All competitions have been modified to allow men and women - ages 18 and over - of all sizes and abilities to compete. Participants can sign up for single events on Saturday (axe throwing, two-man cross cut and tug-of-war) or Sunday (axe throwing), or register for the boast-worthy grand prize, the 2019 Man or Woman of the Cliff. Spectator day passes are just a $10 suggested donation to Can Do MS and kids 12 and under are free. Registration is open online at www.manofthecliff.com and all pre-registrants will receive a free Man of the Cliff T-shirt.

Information about discount lodging may be found on the website and includes The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa and The Christie Lodge in Avon, and The Antlers in Vail. Man of the Cliff is presented by Bonfire Brewing and sponsors include the Town of Avon, Tito's Handmade Vodka, Bighorn Toyota, The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, Walking Mountains, Vail Daily, Fjall Raven, Vail Honeywagon, Raft Defiance, Wood & Steel and Optimum Events.
